While much of Israel’s attention is focused on the front lines, another battle continues quietly inside rehabilitation hospitals across the country. Recently, Kum Israel had the privilege of visiting wounded soldiers taking part in that journey.
Many of these young men and women have gone through unimaginable trauma. Some lost mobility, while others are relearning how to use their hands, fingers, and muscles after severe injuries sustained during the war. Behind every bandage, every wheelchair, and every difficult therapy session is a human being carrying pain, memories, fears, and an entirely new reality they never asked for.
Kum Israel joined a simple but meaningful initiative: providing LEGO sets to wounded soldiers.
At first glance, it may seem small compared to the weight of what these soldiers are facing. Yet sometimes healing begins with the smallest things.
The LEGO sets are used as part of the rehabilitation process itself, helping improve coordination, movement, focus, patience, and fine motor skills. Piece by piece, injured hands begin moving again. Fingers begin working again. Minds overwhelmed by trauma receive moments of calm and concentration.
But beyond the physical rehabilitation, something deeper happens during these visits.
The soldiers realize they are not forgotten.
During our visit, we met Dalia, a mother of four sons serving in combat units. One son had already suffered a serious head injury years ago and recovered. Now another son, Matan, is undergoing rehabilitation after being wounded in the war. Yet despite everything she has endured, she told us with remarkable confidence:
“God is leading me through many trials, but I will overcome them all.”
Her faith and resilience reflected something we encounter again and again throughout Israel during these difficult times.
Later, we visited another ward and met a mother caring for her son, who had suffered a devastating brain injury during military operations. Day after day, she remains by his side, helping him through an uncertain future. Watching her devotion reminded us that behind every wounded soldier stands a family carrying its own burden of sacrifice, hope, and perseverance.
One soldier smiled while building. Another began sharing his story. Others simply sat quietly, thankful that strangers would come just to spend time with them. In moments like these, healing becomes more than medicine. It becomes human connection, compassion, and presence.
At Kum Israel, we believe restoration is not only about rebuilding homes, shelters, or communities. It is also about rebuilding people, encouraging hearts, and standing beside those carrying visible and invisible wounds.
Especially in times of war and pain, acts of kindness become powerful reminders that light still exists.
