While Kum Israel, along with volunteers from across the country, is continually and diligently involved in cleaning and restoring the villages (kibbutzim) affected by the events of October 7th and its aftermath as part of the “Homecoming Project” (see our previous blog, “Rising from the Ashes: The Courageous Rebirth of Israel’s Oct. 7th-Torn Villages”), the return of evacuees has proven to be more challenging than initially anticipated.
Although more and more families are coming back home, their journey remains fraught with difficulties—personal, emotional, logistical, and bureaucratic.
The once-strong communities now find themselves in a critical situation. The community life, which is the very heart of every kibbutz, is at risk after many months of separation due to evacuation and the deep trauma that followed.
Understanding the essence of a kibbutz is challenging, but we must recognize that it took a whole generation to build the strong sense of community that resembles a large family and makes each kibbutz unique.
Kum Israel, along with other individuals and organizations, is deeply concerned about the well-being and future of these communities.
Therefore, it is more crucial than ever to focus on rebuilding through construction efforts to facilitate a greater “homecoming” of people.
